Microsoft Teams Migration Software

Move teams, channels, chat history, and the files behind them to another Microsoft 365 tenant — with a guided tool built for IT teams who want to run the migration themselves.

  • Migrate teams, channels, and membership structure.
  • Migrate channel and chat message history.
  • Carry over channel files (backed by SharePoint) alongside the team.
  • No PowerShell scripting required to get started.
Set expectations early

Teams migration — chat history especially — is genuinely more complex than a file or mailbox move. It can take longer than other workloads and is subject to Microsoft's own API limits. We'd rather tell you that upfront than have it be a surprise mid-project. See Known Limitations below.

What is Microsoft Teams migration software?

Teams migration software moves teams, their channels, membership, and the conversation history within them from one Microsoft 365 tenant to another. This typically comes up during mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, or tenant consolidations, where an organization's Teams environment needs to move to a new home without starting from scratch.

Teams itself is built on top of other Microsoft 365 services — channel files live in SharePoint, and Teams calendar events live in Exchange. This tool focuses specifically on the Teams-native layer: teams, channels, membership, and chat/channel message history. Files travel along with their team automatically as part of that migration.

Good fit if you're moving:
  • Teams between two Microsoft 365 tenants (M&A, divestiture, consolidation)
  • Channel structure and message history you want preserved, not rebuilt manually
  • Teams alongside a broader tenant migration project

How It Works

Four steps, with more planning up front than a typical file migration — Teams migration benefits from it.

1. Connect

Authenticate your source and destination tenants using an admin account with the necessary permissions.

2. Select teams

Choose which teams to migrate, and configure how chat history should carry over.

3. Map users

Map source users to destination accounts so membership and message authorship stay correct.

4. Migrate & verify

Run the migration — expect this stage to take longer than a file-only move — then review the completion report.

What Gets Migrated

Teams structure, conversations, and the files that go with them.

Included

Team and channel structure, membership, channel conversation history, 1:1 and group chat history, channel files, and standard channel tabs.

Out of scope for this tool

SharePoint sites not tied to a Team, and general mailbox/OneDrive content, are handled by SharePoint Migration and Office 365 Migration. Third-party app tabs and custom Teams apps typically need to be reconfigured at the destination rather than migrated.

Known Limitations

Real constraints of Teams migration, not specific to this tool — worth planning around.

Longer migration windows

Chat and channel history migration takes meaningfully longer than a file-only move, especially for teams with a long conversation history. Plan your project timeline accordingly.

Microsoft API limits

Teams migration relies on Microsoft's own migration APIs, which apply rate limits. Large migrations may need to run in batches over a longer period as a result — this is a Microsoft platform constraint, not specific to any one tool.

Admin account required

1:1 chat migration typically requires an admin/placeholder account with broad permissions in both tenants to authorize the move — this is a Microsoft requirement, not a tool limitation.

Core Features

Built for admins who want control without the scripting.

Chat migration modes

Choose to bring chats over as fully active conversations, or migrate them as searchable history only.

User mapping

Map source users to destination accounts so membership and authorship carry over correctly.

Batch & schedule

Migrate teams in batches and schedule runs around Microsoft's API limits rather than manually pacing yourself.

Migration reports

Get a completion summary — teams migrated, items moved, anything skipped — for every run.

How your data stays secure

The tool runs from your own machine and connects directly to your source and destination tenants using Microsoft's own authentication. Content moves directly between the two — it doesn't route through or sit on any CloudMigPro server in between.

FAQ

Common questions about the Microsoft Teams migration software.

Yes — both channel conversations and 1:1/group chat history are in scope. Chat migration is more complex than a file move and typically takes longer; see Known Limitations above for what to expect.

Teams migration relies on Microsoft's own migration APIs, which enforce rate limits on how much can move at once. This is a platform-level constraint that applies regardless of which tool you use.

Files inside a Team's channels travel with that team automatically. For SharePoint sites not tied to a Team, or general mailbox/OneDrive content, see SharePoint Migration and Office 365 Migration.

This is self-service software you run yourself. Given how many moving parts a Teams migration has, our migration services team can also run the whole project for you if you'd rather not manage it directly.

Yes — request it above and the download link is emailed to you directly, no account required. We'd recommend testing against a non-production team first given the complexity involved.
